Russell W. Erickson, 90, of Cloquet, died Sunday, August 7, 2011 under the care of St. Luke’s Hospice in Sunnyside Health Care Center, Cloquet. He was born in 1921 in Duluth to Arvid and Ellen Erickson. Russell graduated from Smith Hughes Vocational School at Denfeld High School in 1939. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1940 and served during WWII and the Korean War. Russell married Elizabeth “Betty” Forsberg on January 4, 1947 in Ironwood, MI.
Russell retired as a shift foreman from Minnesota Power in 1983 after 34 years of employment. Russell dearly loved his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed singing, golfing, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Russ was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Carl Anderson American Legion Post 262 in Cloquet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvid and Ellen.
Russell is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth “Betty” of Cloquet; sons, Greg (Phyllis Zoltec), Todd (Pam), and Brad (Dawn) Erickson, all of Cloquet; six grandchildren, Neil, Jay, Chad, Derek (Elise), Craig, and Ashley Erickson; brother, Roland Erickson of Indiana and a brother-and sister-in-law, Marshall (Janice) Forsberg of Michigan.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Sunnyside Health Care Center and St. Luke’s Hospice for the excellent care given to Russell.
Memorial Services were held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Military honors were accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
