Obituary of Leonard Michael Schminski
Leonard Michael Schminski passed away, with family at his side on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota. He was born in Floodwood, Minnesota on April 9,1933 to Stanley Schminski, Sr., and Antonia Rebelski. He graduated from Floodwood High School in 1951. He was united in marriage to Norma Marttila on June 11, 1960, at St. Louis Catholic Church. He spent 63 years happily married to the love of his life.
Leonard was Airman 1st Class from 1953-1957. He was Plant Manager for Superwood, Floodwood Industries, Van Dresser, and part owner at M.A.T. Inc. He was active with St. Louis Catholic Church, American Legion – Cloquet, Floodwood Sports Boosters, Southwest County Fair Association, and Prairie Lake Association.
Leonard enjoyed spending his time polka dancing, fishing, woodworking, fixing everything, helping children with their homes, and attended all family sports. He loved watching the Twins, Vikings, and Timberwolves.
He was preceded in death by his brothers; Leo, William, Stanley, Clarence, George, and infant brother John; sisters, Frances Sepolski, Ann Erickson, Pearl Kuras, Marjorie Gresczyk, MaryLou Walczynski, and Teresa Cromett.
He is survived by; wife, Norma; children, Greg (Elaine) Schminski, Beth (Steve) Bailey, Carrie (Ryan) Johnson, Janelle (Michael) Wapola; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff on the 10th floor of Essentia-St. Mary's for their compassionate care and support.
